Thank you to all the families who were able to attend Curriculum Night on Thursday. Hopefully you found it informative. If you were not able to attend, please send me a note or an email so I can send home the handouts that were given on Thursday evening. If you have questions that were not addressed at Curriculum Night, please feel free to contact me.
I hope you enjoyed the weekend that started a bit early for the students with their half day on Friday. We certainly had beautiful weather to lead us into the autumn season, which arrives this week. In the coming weeks our students will be reading, discussing, and writing about autumn activities. It would be great if you could also talk with the children about the changes we will be seeing throughout the fall.
This will be a big week in First Grade! We will begin our first Reading Street story, Sam, Come Back. We will be working on identifying the characters in stories we read, and we will practice reading, spelling, and writing short A words. If you go to my "First Grade Websites" tab at the top of this page, you will find a link to Spelling City. This site includes games to help your child practice this week's spelling words. Remember, formal written homework will begin in October, but it would be a great idea to have your child start practicing his/her spelling words and read each day to get used to the responsibility of doing homework each day.
I look forward to working with you throughout this year!
