Welcome back to another wonderful week in first grade!
*** You will see a two-sided math homework paper in your child's folder today. While homework packets will not begin until October 5th (next Monday), today's homework is a good way for your child to practice using tally marks correctly. Our saying in class is, "One, two, three, and four stand tall, five will fall". This helps the children remember that every fifth tally mark crosses a group of four.
This week's Reading Street story is Pig in a Wig. We will focus on identifying realism versus fantasy in the stories we read. When you are reading with your child, some great questions to ask include:
*Could this story really happen?
* Why or why not?
*Do you think this story is real or fantasy?
*What makes you think this story is ____ (real or fantasy)?
We are also talking about the parts of a sentence.
Our class has been discussing autumn. This week we will complete our first writing piece. To prepare, you could talk about the changes we see around us now that autumn is here. You could also discuss together what you like to do during the autumn and give details why you enjoy the activity.
Have a great week!
