We are almost through our first week back at school following the February vacation. My family and I enjoyed taking walks and playing basketball outside during vacation. I am so grateful for the mild weather we have had (with the exception of last night's storm). Many of the children said that they woke up when they heard the storm during the night. We used this as an opportunity to talk about how we might feel after not getting a good night's sleep. We then talked about being extra considerate towards our friends when they seem tired, cranky, or frustrated because they couldn't sleep during the night.
This week, our class continued reading, talking, and writing about how things change as we grow. Our story, Jan's New Home helped the children understand how we can have lots of different feelings about moving to a new home. As we read, we also discussed the theme of the story.
During math, we are working on adding and subtracting two-digit numbers. We used base-10 blocks to help with this task.
Our PTO Read-a-thon ends tomorrow. Please send in the money your child may have earned clearly marked with his/her name, and "Read-a-thon" written on the envelope.
On March 2nd, Willett will have "dress like your favorite book character day". A pink notice was sent home about this on Monday. This spirit day is to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. Please do not have your child wear a mask to school. Also, have fun and be creative with this spirit day, but remember that it is a regular school day, so it is really important that your child is comfortable in his/her outfit.
